The "Contrada Dosso"
The Contrada Dosso is one of the oldest contradas at Solto, together with Canzanico, Sconico, Fradesco, Furmignano and Esmate, still existing in the XIII century.
In this contrada a huge building stands out: it is named "Castro del Dosso" in a document dated 1394.
In another document dated 1448 we can read that the "Castro del Dosso" is "fracto", thats is ruined, probably because of a war. Nowadays it is a massive parallelrpiped building, with a rectangular plan and local stone ashlar mansonny.
On the Nothem wall an arch door has the Family Foresti's blazon.
From a document of 1500 we know that there was a well (still existing) from which the inhabitants drew water.

In 1546 in the Colombì di Solto's castle, in a public and general council, the municipal statutes were approved and in the same year the castle was sold to Gualeno del Lino. In a document dated 1567 it is attested that peo ple had to complete the building of the well begun on 2Oth April 1565 in the square outside the castle. The stipulated contract provided that the castle's owner had to draw water from the inside and the other people from the outside, so the well needed two separated openings still existing. Canzanico Square
Canzanico: very ancient toponym of Solto which is already attested as Contrada Canzanico, in documents dating back to the XIV century.
His importance is due to the presence of the Foresti's residence
whose power is still attested by the huge tower and the contiguous buildings. It was the residence of a lot of notaries Foresti;among them there was Vincenzo who received holograph will of the sculptor Andrea Fantoni in 1732.
The Country Foresti from Solto was created by the Emperor Ludovìck the Bavarian who
gave the dignity of Earl Palatine to Matteo Foresti, Odasio's son, jurisconsult, with the faculty, from him and his male descendants, of creating Royal notaries, ushers and judges in each town in Italy as he and his descendants were citizens of every town in ItaIy and auditors of the Empire of Bergamo and Bresia with other benefits and allowances.

This County died away in 1808 with the death of the unmarried Countess Elisabeth. From a document dated 1494 we know that in Canzanico square took place a court of justice on a "Zocho" ( big piece vi wood) with an "idoneo banco" (suitable desk) nearby.
A document dated 1630 attests the existence of an "Apotheca aromataria" or Pharmacy in Canzano square.

The Fresco
The fresco by an unknown painter appearing on Foresti's tower dates back to 1868. It shows a devotional picture of Our Lady's Assumption. In the lateral spaces among for columns there are SI. Peter and SI. Joseph. Before the restoration (done in summer 2000) The fresco was degraded because of the inclemency of the weather for more than a century The intensity and brightness of the colours were compromised an a lot of parts were lacking. The worst was the painting of St. Joseph. To restore the light and colours of the fresco, the restorers, in accordance with the "Sovrintendenza dei beni ambientali"(Monuments and fine Art office) of Lombardy, began consolidating the fresco along its perimeter and then they cleaned it.
The accurate cleaning allowed to bring to light Angels and original writings.
The restoration was conservative so the painting reintegration was minimal.
The restores could establish that the unknown painter frescoed the whole work in four days and used the pounching to draw the drawing on the plaster.
The pounching cosisted of drawing the picture on paper, piercing along the lines of the drawing, leaning the paper against the wall and beating it with a small sack of black pigment. Trough this work the colour seeped into the piercing and left the shapes of the drawing on the wall.

Foresti's Tower
In the middie of Contrada Canzanico there is the ancient Foresti's tower dating back to the XII century.
Now it is lower: the demolition of the top dates back an ordinance of the Republic of Venice of 1460 which ordered the demolition of all the fortresses in Val Cavallina.
It has a square plan and four storeys with masonries in limestone ashlars but with different in according to its functions.
It has slits; on the second floor there are two small ogive arch windows on the south and west walls.
The ashiarwork in the corners is of dark stone coming from Zorzino.

The Farmsteads
How did people live at Solto Collina before the industrial development brought men to factories and offices? Of course in the fields, in close contact with nature, living for months in the farmsteads built in fields and woods. On our hill there were a real constellation of farmsteads. We can see lots of them looking towards Monte Boario or from Sales, towards the slopes to the lake. On some farmsteads you can find paintings too, sometimes of good workmanship. The subject is always religious, clear sign of our fahters' faith. Each farmstead could tell us the story of the families who lived there.
