Tour
itineraries
Our village
offers a lot pleasant itineraries. Who wants a place to
relax can enjoy what the Ripa, on the slope towards the
parish church, offerrs: short paths winding along its birch wood,
benches and tables and a faboulus view of the lake. Sales where
a lot of people very often go to find chilliness and to drink
the water of the peculiar "Fontanino" (fountain). From
here, walking up the road and then a path among fabolous
chestnut-trees and fir-woods, you can reach the top of Monte
Boario (m. 971). Always from here you can follow the main
road to Fonteno and enjoy the superb view of the lake. Four
itineraries at Esmate are worth attention:
footpath up to Monte Clemo (m.800) and Monte Na (m.708).
The view you can enjoy is very large: from Valle Camonica, with
the Lake of Endine and the Valle del Freddo (the Valley of the
cold) to the Presolana picks and the lake of Sebino (or Iseo).
The Natural reserve of Valle del freddo (the valley of
the cold) is of big interest and it is reacheable from S. Lucia
(St Lucy) at Esmate thruogh a path which reaches it from the
North, while its entrance is from the main street "statale
del Tonale", between Piangaiano and Sovere.
Cerrete is a wide plain slightiy undulating scattered
with cottages in the open space; an area is equipped for
pic-nics.
Uphill path to St. Defendente' Oratory (m 675): it is the
beloved itinerary of Solto. The magic and suggestive atmosphere
of this place is due to its silence and the wonderful view: from
Vallecamonica, to the outlet of the river Oglio into the lake of
Iseo, from the majestic Trentapassi to Monteisola.

The lake of Iseo:
Among
the three lakes of Lombardy, this is surely
the most picturesque, for its unpolluted nature and its small
villages with ancient houses and palaces, that give the impression
that time has been standing
still. The coast nearest to Bergamo has foreshortenings of a rare
beauty, rock walls, creeks,
small beaches where one can swim ans antique villas on
the
waterside.
The
territory on the Brescian
side slopes down easily to
the water, creating plains with a rich vegetation like
the "Torbiere d'Iseo" ; a natural park which houses numerous bird
species. In the centre of
the lake the everso green
island 'Monteisola' and the
two small islands 'San Paolo' and 'Loreto'. Numerous cultural
events, especially in summer, various opportunities to practise
water sports and to rent a sailing or motor boat, possibilities
for
a roundtrip on comfortable and modern boats. Visitors can also
discover the traditions of
these surroundings trying
the gastronomie recipes in
one of the many restaurants that offer not only meat and
vegetables, but also dishes of lake fìsh like tench from
the oven with
'polenta', a specialty of Clusane (fraction
of Iseo). The nearby zone of' Franciacorta' is a large territory
of vineyards, where wines of international fame is
produced.
Montisola:

Montisola
is thè pearl of thè Lake Iseo, one of
the most visited places in thè summer months. It is thè biggest
lake island of Europe. During
the day, boat connections
to all the other localities
on the lake are assured. For
tourists it is only possible to
circulate
by bike (which you can rent
on the island) or by the
communal bus. The villages to visit are: Siviano, Garzano, Novale,
Masse, Singhignano, Olzano, Sensole, Peschiera Maraglio, Senzano,
Menzino,
Cure, Porto.
Th e
island L'isola
di Loreto is the
smallest island of the lake.
Situated on the north side of Montisela.
It is of private
property. In 1400 a cloister was
built here for the Sisters of S.Chiara. Today there is a castle in
New Gothic stile, a park and a small
port.
Th e
island L'Isola
di San Paolo is
situated
on the south side of
Montisola. It is of private
property too. Once here lived fishermen, monks and nobles. The
story tells that on this island there was once a very big convent,
but in 1700 when the island became of private property the church
as well as the convent were
razed to the ground. In 1912
the island
was bough by the Basilio
family who
built a big villa on it.
